Walkable Neighborhoods from Hongdae: Yeonnam, Sangsu, Mangwon, Sinchon & Hapjeong Map

Hongik Univ. Station sits at the intersection of Line 2, the Airport Railroad (AREX), and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line. Three lines, one station — drop your bags and your radius suddenly expands in every direction.

“Hongdae” is not one neighborhood. It’s several, each with a different personality, all within walking distance of each other. This post is your compass: which exit to take, which neighborhood you’ll hit, and where to eat once you’re there.

Walkable — no subway needed

Yeonnam-dong (right outside Exit 3)

Gyeongui Line Forest Park (경의선숲길) starts the moment you step out of Exit 3. Travel time is effectively zero. If you’ve got an awkward gap between plans, this is your safest bet — cafés, tiny restaurants, and a long green strip that was once a railway track.

Sangsu-dong · Dangin-dong (toward Exit 7, on foot or Line 6 Sangsu Station)

From Sangsu Station Exit 4 to the old Dangin-ri Power Plant site, it’s a 300-meter straight line. One block removed from Hongdae’s noise, and it feels like a different world.

Frequently asked questions

Which neighborhoods can I walk to from Hongik Univ. Station?

Yeonnam-dong (Exit 3, right onto Gyeongui Line Forest Park), Sangsu-dong, Dangin-dong, Hapjeong, and Seogyo-dong are all walkable. Mangwon, Sinchon, and Ewha are easier with 1–2 subway stops.

Can I explore these neighborhoods with my suitcase?

I wouldn't. Gyeongui Line Forest Park and Sangsu-dong alleys are a mix of paving blocks, slopes, and stairs — a suitcase doubles your walking time and kills the experience. Store at the station first. It's the only way that actually works.
